Effective date: July 16, 2026
Pictan ("the App") and its marketing website are operated by corita ("we", "us", or "our"), an independent business based in Japan. This Privacy Policy explains what information these services handle and how.
All App users. Learning progress and settings are stored on your device. When iCloud is available, the App also backs up learning progress and selected settings to your private iCloud key-value store so they can be restored across your Apple devices. We do not operate an account system and do not collect names, addresses, phone numbers, payment card details, or email addresses within the App.
Pseudonymous usage analytics. By default, the App sends event-level usage data (such as which screens are opened, card responses, and whether a learning session was completed) to our analytics provider, PostHog, to help us improve the App. These events use a randomly generated app identifier and do not include names, email addresses, or advertising identifiers. You can turn this off at any time in Settings → Privacy → Send usage data.
Website analytics and advertising measurement. Our marketing website, including this policy page, uses PostHog and may use the Meta Pixel and Google Ads tag to measure page views and interactions such as taps on the App Store button. These providers may process browser or device information and their own identifiers according to their privacy policies. Website measurement is separate from App learning data.
Advertising measurement in the App. Starting with iOS version 2.4, the App contains no third-party advertising SDK, does not request permission under Apple's App Tracking Transparency, and does not send an advertising identifier (IDFA) or app events to Meta, Google, or any other advertiser. Earlier iOS versions 2.1 through 2.3 included the Meta SDK for advertising measurement; users of those versions can update to the latest version to use the SDK-free App.
Premium subscribers. When you start a premium subscription, the following is processed:
Payments are handled by Apple.
Learning progress and settings are stored on your device using the operating system's local storage. The App also uses Apple's private iCloud key-value store to back up and restore learning progress and selected settings across your Apple devices when iCloud is available. This iCloud data is controlled through your Apple account and is managed by Apple, not by us. Your device may also include local App data in its normal iCloud device backup.
Subscription information is retained by RevenueCat and Apple for the duration of your subscription and as required by applicable law.
The App is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently received such information, please contact us so we can address it.
Our subscription provider RevenueCat and analytics provider PostHog are based in the United States. By using the App, you understand that subscription identifiers and pseudonymous usage analytics may be processed in the United States. Meta and Google may also process measurement data generated on our marketing website; starting with iOS version 2.4, the App itself sends them no advertising-measurement data.
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will revise the effective date above and, when changes are material, notify users through the App or via email when reasonably possible.
